Chamber History

The Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership was created by the business community to unify its voice and elevate its involvement in local economic development while maintaining and improving a menu of services.
Retaining and creating family-sustaining jobs for our region—jobs that can provide opportunities for our children to stay and raise families here—is our goal. Our mission is to speak and take action for the business community on economic development, business retention, expansion and recruitment within the Erie Region.

Formed in 2002 through the merger of the Erie Area Chamber of Commerce, the Erie conference on Economic Development and Erie Insight, the Erie Regional Chamber acts as the one-stop-shop for economic development in Erie County.

The Erie Regional Chamber provides many of the traditional programs and services originally offered by the Erie Area Chamber of Commerce. In addition, we implemented the PA Business Retention & Expansion Program, a state sponsored, locally administered program committed to growing and maintaining businesses and jobs in Erie County.

The Erie Chamber of Commerce was formed in 1902, and became the Erie Area Chamber of Commerce in 1978. For more than a century, this organization represented area business and industry in promoting the interests of the Erie area.

The Erie Conference on Community Development was a membership organization comprised of 131 Chief Executive Officers representing more than 30,000 employees from Erie County. The Erie Conference gathered input on the community’s needs, assessed ideas and opinions, obtained broad agreement, and facilitated the appropriate action to enhance the quality of life in Erie County.

Erie Insight was founded in 1998 to augment the professional and corporate recruitment and retention efforts of greater Erie businesses. Erie Insight developed professional print and electronic materials to aid human resource professionals in recruitment from outside of Erie. It also developed an Ambassador network to mentor newcomers and introduce them to the community.

By taking essential elements from each of the original organizations and developing new and innovative programs, the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership has taken a bold step toward taking control of our region’s immediate and long-term, economic well-being.
